Silver City

For our very late anniversary celebration, we took a trip to Silver City. Jill's parents give us an anniversary gift every year of two nights stay any place we choose. This was a very good one.

I had meant to learn more about the town while we were there, but it didn't happen. What I do know is that (1) it was the boyhood home of Billy the Kid, (2) there's a really huge mine and it's vast piles of tailings are visible from miles away, and (3) it's the home of Western New Mexico U. It's also the gateway to the Gila Wilderness.

Is there good biking? You bet! There's a loop that's about 80 miles or so long with almost no traffic and very smooth roads. We rode out about 22-24 miles and then turned around. Why so short? Well, there's lots of climbing and less daylight hours, and well, we were a little lazy. But why get super tired on an anniversary trip?

We did cross the continental divide. The green sign in the background is the divide -- 7080 feet above sea level.

Riding a bunch makes us hungry! Fun ice cream shop in Pinos Altos.

Meat sticks on sourdough. Yummy (only on a bike ride).
